The human being is an emphatic being, which is why communication is a particular and important need in us all. Recognised leaders in our times have undergone language training and speak creatively. The art of speaking is already an artistic and fulfilling process. The articulation of language shapes our listeners’ experience with greater impact than many people realise. Audiences in a theatre sit a long way away from the actor and the stage. The people up in the gods want to be able to understand what’s going on too. In cinema, a carrying voice is invaluable; truly excellent voices are rare. If the audience has a great auditory experience, this has a considerable effect on their perception of the play or film as a whole and is therefore, in addition to physical movement, the most important artistic means an actor has.
